    Japantown celebrates the San Jose Obon festival, a time when generations of families and friends come together and enjoy a rich cultural experience in one of the three remaining Japantowns in the United States. Japantown’s largest festival with two days of game booths, food booths, the Chidori Band, Three taiko performances each day including San Jose Taiko and over 1,200 dancers in colorful traditional festive wear each evening.

Taking place Every Saturday from 5 PM to 9 PM at the beloved Backesto Park (651 E Empire St, San Jose, CA 95112). All ages welcomed! Featuring super tasty savory food trucks (different each week), delicious ice cream, live music performances by some of San José's best rising artists, local retail & art vendors and special theme nights. A perfect destination for a summer evening stroll or a bike ride or walking your dog however there is also plenty of free street parking in the immediate vicinity of the venue.

  1. Volunteer with the Alum Rock Trail Crew!

    July 13, 8:45 AM - 1:00 PM @ Alum Rock Park

    Like to be active? Enjoy natural landscapes? Is hiking a favorite hobby? If yes, please join us every 2nd Saturday for the Alum Rock Trail Crew! Volunteers hike to a work site, improve the trails by leveling pathways, trimming back greenery growth and accomplishing other tasks that make the dirt trails safe for all! All tools and training provided Please wear sturdy shoes, as the trails are uneven Bring a filled water bottle that you can carry with you If desired, pack your own snack A hat and sunscreen are recommended Volunteering in nature is a great way to exercise, enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, while making a difference in our local park!     Fascinated by bees? Become a backyard beekeeper. Happy Hollow Park & Zoo teaches the basics of beekeeping and equipment needs. Instructor Steve Demkowski, the Park & Zoo’s resident beekeeper and owner of Willow Glen Honey, will teach those interested hands-on hive management, bee installation, swarm gathering, honey harvesting, mite control and hives prepping for the winter.
