Poor Air Quality from Ferguson Fire Temporarily Closes Family Camp at Yosemite

Due to poor air quality conditions associated with the Ferguson Fire in the Yosemite area, the Tuolumne Health Department issued a Health Advisory for residents and travelers in the areas affected by the wildfire smoke. As a result of this, the Department of Parks, Recreation Neighborhood Services Family Camp at Yosemite closed early this season on July 31, one week before the official August 5 closing date. With the fire continuing, currently at only 38% contained, staff has temporarily suspended post season activities and evacuated staff, due to the poor air quality, road closures, and on-going Cal-Fire operations. While the fire is still several miles from the camp, the Ferguson fires have consumed 91,000 acres of land in California’s Tuolumne County. For more information, please contact Justin Long, PRNS Deputy Director, at 408-793-5579.
