Classic California Wheelchair Basketball Tournament

The two-day Classic California Wheelchair Basketball event brought together teams from all over Northern California to compete on Feb. 23 and Feb. 24 at Bascom Community Center. The sport has the same rules and regulations as able-bodied basketball, but requires more skillfulness in maneuvering wheelchairs and shooting hoops. Wheelchair sports programs focus on the skills and abilities of their participants rather than disabilities. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services’ Therapeutic Recreation Services All Access Sports and Recreation provides a sense of community for children and adults with developmental, cognitive and physical disabilities. Through these programs, PRNS places an emphasis on creating a community for all. For more information, contact Neil Rufino, PRNS Deputy Director, at 408-535-3572.
