Older Americans Month Celebrated at Senior Nutrition Programs

With 16% of American seniors facing hunger and over 40% experiencing social isolation, accessible programs designed to connect and protect older adults are vital to ensuring quality of life. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services’ Senior Nutrition Program (SNP) provides over 200,000 meals annually and links to programs that connect, create and contribute to quality of life. May is Older Americans Month and serves to highlight programs and services that keep adults healthy and connected. SNP ensures access to affordable, healthy and delicious meals at 13 San José community centers. In addition to providing healthy and balanced meals, SNP decreases social isolation, encourages healthy aging and offers resources for older adults and their caregivers through informational sessions on a variety of programs and resources. For more information, contact Neil Rufino, PRNS Deputy Director, at 408-535-3571.
