The McLaughlin Avenue Safety Improvement project is a federally funded project that runs from Highway 280 to Capitol Expressway, a total of 3.2 miles. The project will increase pedestrian safety and visibility by installing Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacons, enhancing existing crosswalks for high visibility, upgrading ramps to be ADA-compliant, and installing new median islands with landscaping to improve safety by decreasing vehicular speeds. McLaughlin Avenue has been classified as one of San Jose’s “Safety Priority Streets” under the City's Vision Zero Initiative to end traffic fatalities and severe injuries.
